Its elaborate the rococo style design (as seen in French King Louis XV’s time) incorporates leaves, flowers, scrolled feet, and shapes reminiscent of shells. The school owned a beautiful Lyon and Healy Harp Style 17 in natural wood with ornate carvings and a gold decal on the soundboard. The instrument is superbly crafted, intricately carved, and clad in lavish 23+ karat gold leaf. Perhaps Lyon and Healy were inspired by this rich history when they created the Louis XV Special Concert Grand harp. The stringed instrument dates back to at least 3500 BC and gained particular popularity in Europe during the Renaissance and Middle Ages.

What do y'all think?ĮDIT: I don't know how much L&H charges to repair the gold foil, so that could be a bit more.As far as classical and soothing musical instruments go, you can’t get much more traditional than the harp. It isn't a Concert Grand, and I know my harp teacher would reinforce how all 47 strings are valuable in a concert setting.īecause of the damage requiring repairs (likely the action, neck alignment, soundbox), and the damage to the gold, I'd guestimate the neighborhood of $5-15k to buy with $10-15k in repairs. In general, golds seem to be about 60-70% more expensive (based on the 34k USD to 55.5k USD Style 23 natural to gold price difference). I don't think it's a very common model (the Virginia Harp Center doesn't stock new ones), and I can't find a good price for a new one. I don't know much about Style 17 golds I am pretty sure L&H still sells natural ones. If we have that twist, then the neck needs to be replaced (that alone can be, like, $5-8k USD). It is a common damage for older harps, since the strings are pulling on one side of the neck for decades and decades with thousands of pounds of force. I wish I had a view from the shoulder to the pillar to see if the neck is twisted counter-clockwise. I don't see any cracks in the soundboard, so that's good. Comes with a new thick padded cover.Stop by Wedgles Music Loan and take a look at this and our selection of guitars, basses, amps.

The birds eye maple and sitka spruce look fantastic, pictures dont do it justice. If you don't know the latest date of regulation or string changes, then that's a concern too. This Style 16 Gold pedal harp from Lyon Healy is in excellent cosmetic condition and sounds beautiful. The heavy oxidation/dirt on the metal-bound white strings (pic 3) suggests the strings are also old. The smears on the action plates also concern me a bit I don't know what causes them. That, with the same kind of damage in pic 2, suggests this instrument may have a bit of a tough life. The extended portion of the soundboard/box in pic 1 looks pretty beat up and I think the gold foil looks damaged at the base. If you have physical access to the instrument, I'd suggest checking the pedals and seeing how they feel and sound. Older harps can have mechanism issues if they haven't been regularly maintained or refurbished. It is before the teflon-coated actions, I think.
Lyon healy harp 17 gold serial numbers#
46 strings, a serial number of 2516? That sounds like it was made, what, in the 1930's? 40's? I don't remember my Style 17 serial numbers very well.
